Walden University Participant Pool

1. What is the Participant Pool?

The Participant Pool is a virtual bulletin board that connects researchers to participants. Walden researchers can post their studies on the site and those members of the Walden community who are interested in participating in research can visit the site to see if there are any studies in which they would like to participate. It is a great resource not only for researchers, as it provides access to a very diverse community, but also to participants as they have the opportunity to learn about research in general in addition to seeing the research being done by students and faculty within the university. The site continues to grow and there are now over 5000 users of the Participant Pool, with several researchers conducting and completing research due to the participation obtained from the site.

The following self-paced tutorial provides an overview of the Participant Pool, explaining how both participants, and researchers, can use the site: Self Paced Participant Pool Module (Adobe Captivate)

2. Posting a Study

To access the site as a researcher: Researchers interested in posting a study on the Participant Pool website should e-mail participantpool@waldenu.edu for information. The following application will also need to be completed: Application to Place a Study on the Participant Pool Website.(Word™) Researchers interested in using this site should also review relevant IRB guidelines at the following link: IRB Guide for Researchers Using the Participant Pool.(Word™)

3. Signing up for a Study

To access the site as a participant: Either click on the following link, or copy and paste it into your Web browser address bar: http://walden.sona-systems.com/Default.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2f. This will take you to the login page, where you will see "New Participant?" with a link underneath it to request an account.

Social Change Impact Report Datasets

What is the Social Change Impact Report Datasets?

The Social Change Impact Report (SCIR) Datasets is a Walden-owned database of research results generated from three online surveys about social change that were conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of Walden University in 2011 and 2012. The surveys investigate US and International participants’ views on and experiences with positive social change and/or social action; more specifically, involvement in activities that make improvements in the lives of individuals and communities both locally and around the world.

• The survey for the 2011 Social Change Impact Report: American Survey was conducted among 2,148 adults in the United States. Data were weighted to be representative of total population of U.S. adults age 18+.

• The 2011 Social Change Impact Report: Global Survey was conducted among a total of 12,208 adults within Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Great Britain, India, Japan, Mexico, Spain, and U.S. Data for each country were weighted to the general or online population within each country. This online survey was not based on a probability sample and therefore no estimate of theoretical sampling error can be calculated.

• The 2012 Social Change Impact Report: Global Survey was conducted with 8,953 adults in Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, India, Jordan, Mexico and the U.S., and gauges their perceptions and motivations for getting involved, as well as the roles of nonprofit organizations, government and the media in social change across countries. Data for each country were weighted to the general or online population within each country.

Who May Request to Use the Social Change Impact Report Datasets?

The SCIR Datasets is available for use by all Walden faculty, students, and staff.  At this time, requests from researchers outside of the University are not accepted.

How to Request the Social Change Impact Report Datasets

1. Complete the Institutional Approver (IA) Request Form. Instructions about how to complete the form and where to submit it are included in the form itself.
2. Once the IA Request Form has been approved, complete an Institutional Review Board (IRB) application for the proposed research that uses the SCIR Dataset. The Walden IRB application, instructions about how to submit your IRB application, and general IRB guidelines is housed on this CRQ website, and can easily be accessed by clicking on the red IRB button on the home page of the CRQ website.
3. Upon receiving IRB approval, send the following materials to datasetaccess@waldenu.edu to request the data set:
a. Copy of the completed IA Request Form
b. Copy of the IA request approval
c. Copy of the completed IRB form.
d. Copy of the IRB approval letter
When the three steps outlined above have been completed the SCIR Datasets Coordinator will work with applicant to release the data that has been requested. Data will be sent as email attachments.
